1. Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is the National Standards Body functioning under the aegis of the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution (Department of Consumer Affairs), Government of India, New Delhi governed under the BIS Act 2016 for harmonious development of the activities of Standardization and Quality Certification of the goods in the country.

BIS also provides Product Certification, Management System Certification, Hallmarking of Gold & Silver Jewellery & artefacts, Recognition of Assaying & Hallmarking Centres, Laboratory recognition, Lab Activities , Registration of Electrical/Electronics Items etc. against relevant Indian Standards.
